Dolphy’s Life Lessons: 10 Wise Moves From the Comedy King
Words by Faye Valencia
Art by War Espejo
It’s been said that he who laughs last, laughs the loudest. Dolphy, who reigned as the country’s King of Comedy for decades, is most probably having a good chuckle right now. He has checked out while we’re all scrambling like mad to deal with his sudden exit. Imagine an impish little boy who has suddenly found the best hiding place ever just feeling amused that nobody can find him. Then again, at 83, the veteran comedian deserved to finally bow out and rest. As a tribute to his larger-than-life existence, we list the lessons we learned from the way he lived.

The American Comedy Co. Opens in Downtown San Diego
Featuring Rex Navarrete April 5-7!
Locally owned and operated comedy club and restaurant features the best of
nationally touring stand-up comedians in the business
San Diego, CA: April 5-7–The American Comedy Co. will feature Rex Navarrete in San Diego’s historic Gaslamp Quarter on April 5-7 2012. The American Comedy Co. comedy club and restaurant is designed to give the highest quality entertainment in the Downtown area.
About Rex Navarrete:
As a major follow-up to the three CDs and touring like crazy in Asia and North America, he produced, directed and released “Hella Pinoy”, his first ever live standup DVD concert. Shot in San Francisco, it has all the hidden goodies including a feature-length performance, a behind the scenes documentary, his early days of standup and much more. It’s become a must have DVD in anyone’s comedy collection. Navarrete remains to be a one of the hardest working, relatively unknown American comedians today though he’s performed alongside notable national headliners as George Lopez, DL Hughley, Paul Mooney, among others. He does plan to release a number of other comedy albums on CD and DVDs under his label for fans to enjoy. The future seems to only give him the chance to connect with a larger audience that is now finally getting the opportunity to experience the changing face of American stand-up comedy. All four CDs and three DVDs can be purchased online at www.RexNavarrete.com

Looking for some culinary inspiration today? Look no further…
Maharlika Filipino Moderno is providing a new take on the underdog of Asian cuisine. The New York restaurant, based in the East Village, has been drawing attention for its nostalgic decor, classic dishes and re-interpretation of authentic Filipino tastes. Executive chef Miguel Trinidad describes to Crane.tv the ideas behind some of their signature dishes, while general manager Nicole Ponseca explains her theory on why Filipino food hasn’t yet achieved the global recognition of its Asian neighbours.
Now I’d like to take a trip over to NYC…
